Student Health Each day, the teacher observes the children in class. Any child who shows signs of being ill is referred to the Health Clerk. For the best protection, children showing signs or symptoms of illness or fever should be kept home until fully recovered.
Communicable Disease A notice describing symptoms and isolation period will be sent home with each child in a class exposed to a communicable disease. Please watch your child and, if illness develops, keep him/her at home and notify the school immediately.
Illness/Accident All office personnel are trained in first aid procedures. A trained Health Clerk is on duty from 9:30 - 1:30. By law, we are allowed to render first aid only; we may not diagnose or prescribe in case accident or illness occurs.
District policy specifies that a child cannot walk home alone from school during school hours. Sick or injured children cannot be sent home unless a parent or other responsible adult accompanies them.
Parents (or emergency designee) will be notified whenever a significant accident or illness occurs.
Medication If your child must take any medication, school personnel may assist him if a written statement from the physician detailing procedures and a written request from the parent are given to the Health Clerk. Parents may administer medication at school if prior arrangements are made through the office. Properly labeled containers with up to two week's supply of medication may be kept in the health office. Under no circumstances should children be allowed to carry any kind of medication with them. This includes over-the-counter medications such as aspirin or cough drops as well as prescription drugs.
Vision/Hearing Tests Free tests may be made available to your child during the year. Notification will be sent home in advance of these tests and you are encouraged to take advantage of them.
