OGSD Safety PlanThe safety of children and personnel is the paramount priority of the Oak Grove School District.
View the emergency preparedness document in Adobe Acrobat Format. To better ensure the safety and security of students and staff, we have developed and annually update and test the systems and procedures which are designed to ensure that the District (and its schools) are prepared to address emergency situations and natural disasters in a timely and effective manner. Safe Schools Plan Consistent with State law and long standing practice, the District has developed and maintains a Comprehensive School Safety Plan for each School site. The District will continue to annually evaluate and test as appropriate the Safe School Plans for completeness and effectiveness, and with the involvement of students, staff and the School Site Council we will update as appropriate. The existence and components of safety plans will be communicated to students, staff and community through direct communication at meetings, in school and through District newsletters. Training will be provided to students, staff and community as appropriate in support of the implemented programs. Emergency Preparedness Plan The District shall take every reasonable precaution regarding preparedness for the safety of students, staff and visitors in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. Toward that end, comprehensive emergency preparedness plans have been developed and are in place at all schools and work sites in the District. The plans are consistent in format among Oak Grove schools, while addressing local differences. They are also consistent with recognized State and National standards. Emergency preparedness plans will be tested each year through site and/or District drills or simulations. |
OGSD ProgramsOak Grove School District ProgramsThe Oak Grove School District offers a wide variety of educational programs to meet the needs of its students.
These links will take you to basic information describing the many instructional programs offered, along with appropriate email and/or telephone contacts so you can inquire about the program or request more detailed information. The Indigo Program Independent Study Highlight of Grade Level Standards Indigo Program As part of our commitment to serve our community’s needs, the Oak Grove School District works collaboratively with a group of families regarding an optional program for primary grade students. The goal was to develop a different type of educational experience for students and families within OGSD. In March 2004, the Board of Trustees reviewed and passed a proposal for an optional program named Indigo. The indigo plant is a native California bush from which the color indigo originated. The Indigo Program offers an educational choice for families who want an elementary setting with parent participation, using a constructivist model and multi-age student interactions. Our commitment is to provide a safe, nurturing and cooperative community where learning experiences meet children’s diverse individual and collective needs. We seek to inspire and support students to reach their fullest potential as lifelong learners, leaders and human beings. Currently, this program serves students K-5. Our intent is to expand by adding a grade level each subsequent year with the possibility of being a K-8 program in the future. In 2006-07 the program served K-4 students. Fifth grade is being added in the 2007-08 school year. Fully certificated/credentialed teachers and staff work with our students supported and enriched by our family volunteers. We are fortunate to have a very experienced staff in the areas of integrated, thematic curriculum who use a variety of teaching methodologies to reach all students. Indigo is standards-based and is aligned with OGSD’s Five-Year Plan. Instructional minutes are also aligned with OGSD and State requirements. Full-day Kindergarten is offered with an option for families to pick up their child(ren) at the beginning of lunch and prior to the afternoon integration of enrichment. Enrichment centers follow grade level and cross grade level themes and curriculum supporting classroom learning. Independent Study
The Independent Study program involves Frost Elementary and Bernal Intermediate schools. It is an optional alternative instructional strategy through which all enrolled pupils may achieve curriculum objectives in a setting other than the regular classroom. Independent Study gives parents the opportunity to support the instruction of their children in the home environment with professional guidance from supervising teachers and administrators. Independent Study instruction is consistent with the Oak Grove School District 's curriculum, State Standards and Five-Year Plan. It provides students the opportunity to pursue an education at their own pace, creates a bridge between the school and the community, challenges each student to excel in areas of special interest, and supports alternatives for students to achieve competency in basic skills. Both programs (elementary and intermediate grades) are housed at Frost Elementary School and may be reached at 408-578-6032 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday |
